The Bakery just came to me in the winter of '95 - '96. I had moved here in the summer to fight forest fires, forgot to save money, and found myself broke in a very small town…

I did what anyone would do… I leased a spot in a small hole-in-the-wall bakery, packed my wagon full of lunch goodies and bakery treats, and set out about town to sell lunches to the local shop merchants who were stuck inside, alone, at lunch hour. It was great! I was usually done, cash in pocket, and skiing by noon. When the owner decided to leave town and offered to sell me the business, I figured, "Sure -- how hard could it be?"

Thus began my dynamic relationship with baking, business, and all the amazing people who have come through, stayed, or stopped by for a minute…

Opening Day, 1997
I opened bright and early January 7, 1997 after a very late night and a super-early morning getting everything ready for action. I rolled the bagels and mixed up some muffins -- particularly proud of my carrot-apple-zucchini muffins.

The sunrise was spectacular and I had a few early morning customers who were psyched that I was finally open. The day turned out more hectic than I imagined. My visions of learning banjo or knitting in my spare time were fading fast… Photos…

The Remodel, 2000
What a great day it was when we knocked down the walls and expanded the Bakery. We miss Don the Barber and everything -- but now we have room to boogie! In just six long/short weeks we were open for business in our fabulous new location. Photos…
